Over the last few years, I’ve felt like the king of habits. Am I going to brag? …Yeah.
1000+ day journal streak. This is the keystone habit that kept me grounded and helped me do everything else.
400+ day Duolingo streak. Estoy aprendiendo español y practico todos los días.
54 game sessions of at least 2 hours each, facilitating a D&D campaign online.
Lost 19kg, gained 10kg, then lost 13kg. Put on a fair amount of muscle.
Ran 100km over 34 days.
1 podcast and 1 blog a week from the end of September to mid January.
All while maintaining a full-time job as a senior technical writer.
Now? I’ve recently resigned from my job to take a break for a few months, I’m not actively trying to lose weight but instead just maintaining it (which is a lot easier), and I haven’t been posting articles and podcasts until recently. I feel like I’m ready to commit to that last one again.
Years ago, I wrote about how one of the barriers to blogging is the inevitable drop of the habit and the pressure to come back with “the perfect post”, which of course doesn’t exist. To avoid that issue, I forced myself to finish an article last week, and published 4 Limitations of Lists That You Must Overcome To Get Results.
I find that the pressure to write “articles of value” that have “something to say” has been stopping me from flexing a muscle that has been itching for a while.
I often find that I’m not interested in updating my journal, because writing a daily log as a depressed man who loses hours of his life to a haze of dissociation feels like the worst chore. But it is important to exercise these writing muscles because then when you have an important day, you are ready and able to process it and write about it.
Also, you learn to let go of the pressure to make something perfect, and just make something human.
So look forward to a weekly BLOG from me, while I work on longer articles and other stuff. Here’s some stuff that will hopefully be out soon:
Everyday People 121 with video - I’ve already published this on YouTube and a bunch of reels on my Instagram. Was experimenting with order of publishing. Will collate soon to put here on my website and email newsletter.
Everyday People 122 and 123 - I have two banked episodes from the start of the year that I’m now starting to edit.
A NEW video show - Heroes of Zemera - which is me running D&D and other TTRPGs with various guests. Have shot one episode and shooting another soon.
A new fiction story in Books of Zemera - “The Mischievers in The Shadows Pt. 1”.
Video narrations of all stories from Books of Zemera. I’ve shot a test video for “The Tale of Gudrun’s Door” already.
Note: I’ve made the three existing stories free, and will publish the new ones as free too. Check out Books of Zemera!
Thank you for reading my blog! It is a different rush to hear back from some of you when you enjoy something. I’d appreciate it if you share my blogs with your friends.
